In order to minimize the possibility of infection or complications, it is necessary to follow these procedures.

DO NOT rinse, expectorate (spit), smoke or drink through a straw for 24 hours.

BLEEDING:  Bite on gauze using moderate pressure for the first 45 minutes.  If you have continued bleeding, change the gauze and bite for an additional 45 minutes. When removing the gauze, do so carefully.

MINOR oozing is to be expected during the first 24 hours.

We suggest placing a towel over your pillow while asleep.

PAIN:  Take medication for pain as instructed.

SWELLING:  Moderate swelling is NOT uncommon after oral surgery. As directed, place an ice pack on the face, over the area, for 10 minutes on / 10 minutes off.

Continue this routine for 4-6 hours.

Rest with your head elevated.

On the second day following your surgery, rinse mouth with warm salt water several times a day

(1/2 tsp salt to 8 oz. warm water).  If swelling is still present, place a warm, moist towel on the face for 10 minutes on / 10 minutes off.

Proper oral hygiene will enable your mouth to heal faster. On the first day, avoid brushing the surgical site.

On day two, gently brush the teeth surrounding the area.

You may also use a Q-tip or soft wash cloth to clean AROUND the area.  DO NOT attempt to clean the site with a toothpick, water pick, or other device.
